Submissions to the Magazine

Bonanza Convention Inc. under license from Bonanza Ventures Inc. proposes to publish a quarterly BONANZA magazine which will include short stories based on the Bonanza characters. We hereby invite you to submit a short story for consideration for inclusion in the magazine.

In submitting a story you agree to abide by the rules set out below:

The story must include one or more of the Cartwrights as its principal character(s) and in general be no more than 8,000 words. (shorter stories are encouraged). Longer stories may be accepted in exceptional circumstances. Stories will be illustrated by the magazine's chosen illustrators. All stories may be edited before inclusion. Each issue of the magazine will be slanted towards one main character and stories featuring that character will be given priority each quarter. Acceptance for publication does not guarantee appearance in a particular issue.

The story must be suitable for general release and be in keeping with the standards of BONANZA™. Therefore stories with excessive violence or explicit sex will be rejected.

Stories must not have been published in any form prior to submission. Stories must not have appeared on the Internet or been circulated by email or other form.

Stories must be set in the period of Ben Cartwright's lifetime, i.e. no time travel. Flashbacks within the period of his life are acceptable. Crossover stories with other fictional characters are not permitted. Any references to specific BONANZA episodes must be correctly attributed to the writer.

Any historical characters used must be properly researched, although some poetic licence with the history of the period will be permitted.

Characters from the series must retain the general characteristics assigned to them by the series writers.

The editors' decision on inclusion is final. If your story is accepted you agree that Bonanza Ventures, Inc. and Bonanza Conventions, Inc. shall be the copyright holders of your story, for the maximum period of time allowed by law (including any copyright renewal periods), and you further agree that Bonanza Convention Inc. shall be the exclusive distributor of your story.
